Background
“You eat with your eyes” – We’ve all heard it. But do we really understand what a big role our sense of vision plays when we eat everyday? The focus on visual appeal, presentation, styling and plating of food has skyrocketed in the past decade. Several chefs have even been accused of focusing on presentation and neglecting the flavour of the food they serve. When it comes to specific food, various sensory attributes play an important role in our ability to identify, enjoy and savour the food. Eating Without Eyes cuts off the sense of vision, thus enabling guests to rely on other sensory cues to identify what they are putting into their mouths.
Eating Without Eyes
The multisensory experimental experience relies on blindfolds to demonstrate the role our individual senses play in the way we perceive food everyday. We blindfold our willing guests and present them with a visually-appealing platter of food. But, they are unable to see what they are about to put into their mouths. This urges them to use all their other senses – touch, smell, sound and taste to figure it out! Eating without eyes is a playful way for your guests to interact with simple, everyday food; while closely tuning into what is placed in front of them. We often tend to overlook and take for granted the nuanced attributes of the simplest food.
